Shelby Green

Being born into poverty, I have a strong respect for finance. Growing up I didn’t have a bad life, but I definitely didn’t have it easy. My parents divorced when I was around 12 years old, and this began to make things pretty shaky going into my middle school years. Growing up I saw when things were tough, and it made me more passionate to learn about finance. I believed that studying finance would help me and those I’m affiliated with avoid financial struggles. So, I went to the school of USC-Aiken with a bachelor’s degree in finance.

My parents gave me a strong sense of what to prioritize, but even though they retired in their early 60s, they ended up going back to work in their 70s due to insufficient financial planning. This is a reality I strive to prevent for every retiree I work with. I strive to ensure that no one I work with faces the hardship of outliving their savings or being forced back into work during retirement.

I specialize in helping retirees and those nearing retirement secure their financial future with confidence. Whether it's ensuring a reliable income stream, protecting assets, or planning for healthcare costs, I take a personalized approach to understand what matters most to each client. My mission is to provide the guidance and strategies needed so they can enjoy their golden years without financial stress.

Financial security in retirement isn’t just about numbers—it’s about peace of mind. I’m here to help retirees make informed decisions so they can enjoy life on their terms, without the fear of outliving their savings.

Let’s create a retirement plan that truly works for you.

What most taught you about money I was fortunate to have many role models who showed me that hard work will pay off. My first job at 13 years old was dressing up as the Pillsbury Doughboy at a grocery store grand opening…and then cleaning bathrooms and pushing carts, which not only taught me the value of money, but humility!

    Adam Smith
Adam Smith is a man of loyalty and trustworthiness, someone solid that others can depend on.  As a Financial Advisor with over 23 years of experience helping clients preserve wealth, it was those very ideas of fidelity and steadfastness that Private Financial Counsel, LLC was built on. “Maybe it was my experiences in scouting and the projects I undertook to rise to the level of Eagle Scout, that focused my life’s work on concepts of duty to God and country, duty to others, and duty to self.  I try to live by an ethical, moral, and spiritual code, and I will always require my practice follow that code as well.” Adam started his independent practice in 2006.  He serves clients nationally. Early in his career, he passed the Series 6, Series 7, Series 63, Series 65, and Series 24 securities licensing exams.  Adam is currently life and health insurance licensed in many states and has previously achieved the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) designation, as well as the Chartered Federal Employee Benefits Consultant (ChFEBC) designation. Originally from the mid-west, Adam has lived in Florida with his wife of twenty-four years and his four children since 2003.  A graduate of Indiana University’s Kelly School of Business, with a degree in finance and economics, Adam often points out that what he does for clients has been learned through experience, not classwork. An avid fisherman, SCUBA diver, alpine skier, college sports enthusiast, and wine aficionado, when Adam is not working to serve clients, his first love is for his family. “The reality of investment management, and the rendering of quality financial advice, is that it is very much a craft that requires practice; it is not a science.”
