John Shipman
John grew up in the Sunbury, PA area. He attended Sunbury Area High School, Bloomsburg College, Bloomsburg, PA where he majored in Political Science and Baptist Bible College, in Clarks Summit, PA where he majored in Theology.
He entered the insurance and investment business in 1970 as an agent for The Prudential Insurance Company in West Wyoming, PA. In 1973, he opened his own agency in Forty Fort, PA. He joined Mid-Penn Insurance in Sunbury, PA as a partner in 1975. He currently is practicing as an independent financial advisor at OMNIWEALTH Group in Lewisburg. He was awarded the certified Insurance Counselor, CIC, professional designation in 1978, the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter, CPCU designation in 1982, and the Life Underwriters Training Counsel Fellow, LUTCF, designation in 1988. He has taught various insurance and investment courses since 1986. He is recognized as a leading industry professional in Pennsylvania. John has received various industry awards for production and quality of business. He is a member of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, The Society of Property and Casualty Underwriters, The Insurance Agents and Brokers Association of PA, and The independent Insurance Agents of America.
He is active in church and community affairs. He has served as an Elder in his church for over 30 years. He served on the Board of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce, including two years as Chairman of the Board. He served on the board of Leadership Susquehanna Valley, including a term as President of that organization. He has served on the board of the Professional Insurance Agents Association of PA, MD and DE, including serving as Chairman of the Board, and following a merger of that organization, with the Independent Insurance Agents of PA, became the first Chairman of the Board of Insurance Agents and Brokers, the successor organization. He has served on the board of Sunbury Revitalization, Inc; he is a past president of that organization and currently chairs the SPARC (Sunbury Pride and Renaissance Coalition) Group. He has served on the board of directors of Susquehanna Industrial Development Corporation, and was chair of its Wilhold Task Force. He had served on The Sunbury Redevelopment Authority and the Northumberland County Industrial Development Authority. He has served three terms on Sunbury City Council as Director of Accounts and Finance. In 2014 he was recognized as Sunbury’s Citizen of the Year by the Sunbury Rotary Club.
