Sonji Rollins Tucker
At an early age I became interested in the Investment industry because my mother would always point to the news after dinner and say, “Look at those numbers that means money” My mother who had a 6th grade education did not know that those numbers scrolling across the screen was called a market index, specifically the Dow Jones Index and she did not know it represented stocks, but she did know it had something to do with money. I figured out then I wanted my mom to know, and all black women raising children in the projects to know and understand what the stock market was and how to create and build wealth for their families. The financial industry was not made for us---but it is my job to help women and underserved communities especially Black women to understand and feel comfortable and navigate their finances. We deserve to be wealthy. We deserve a comfortable retirement. We deserve good pay, leadership positions and to be business owners. We deserve to splurge and save and invest. We deserve to leave a legacy of wealth to our children. This is my calling, and therefore I serve.
